Panchakarma Revitalisation Therapy
An important part of Maharishi Ayurveda are the various ancient purification therapies for removing impurities and
toxins that accumulate in the body's cells. Removal of such toxins
"unblocks" healing channels within the body - promoting better metabolism and
tissue rejuvenation. These luxurious therapies, which include sumptuous oil massages and
gentle detoxification treatments, eliminate the harmful effects of stress and fatigue.
Deeply relaxing, they restore vibrant life to your whole body and give clarity of mind.
Timeless Knowledge Rediscovered
Panchakarma - "The Royal Treatment" - was reputedly reserved for the royal families of ancient
India, who used it to maintain their strength and youthfulness.
Recent research has shown that this luxurious procedure does actually reverse age-related deteriorations in physical functioning and has confirmed its value for both physical and mental health
The main treatments of Panchakarma include:
- Abhyanga - Synchronised full body massage with individually selected herbal oils
- Shirodhara - a continuous, comfortably warm stream of oil on the forehead and temples
- Svedana - herbal steam bath
- Basti - enemas with purifying, soothing or nourishing effect
- Nasya - nasal treatment involving massage of head, shoulders and neck, with inhalation and warm compresses
- Netra tarpana - eye treatment
The Panchakarma treatment programme, which is designed individually for each person after a consultation with a Maharishi Ayurveda physician, lasts from 3 to 14 days or more and begins at home with a special diet to dislodge impurities from the tissues, followed by cleansing of the digestive system.
"I was suddenly
disabled with multiple sclerosis in 1993. I couldn't walk or talk and for a
week I couldn't swallow. I had such a pessimistic prognosis from the consultant
neurologist in Edinburgh that I decided to see a Maharishi Ayurveda physician -
who was the complete opposite in his approach. He took my pulse and got in touch with one
of the world's leading experts in ayurveda, Dr. Raju, and discussed my case with him.
The initial treatment
programme lasted three months by the end of which I was down from using two walking sticks
full-time to one stick only some of the time. In 1995, I went to Holland for the new
Intensive Programme for Chronic Diseases. It was a wonderful treatment, very restful, with
round the clock care. Afterwards I no longer needed my sticks and felt wonderful, a new
person, fantastic!
Since that time, I have continued to improve, and am able to lead a reasonably normal life.
There are a few residual symptoms that other people don't notice, but generally I am
so much better - thanks to Maharishi Ayurveda!"
