A New Transcendental Meditation Centre for Aberdeen

The Aberdeen Transcendental Meditation group have started a project to build a Transcendental Meditation centre in the city, with the location and design selected to conform to the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, architecture in accord with Natural Law.

Proposed new centreAfter an extensive search lasting several months, a site was identified and referred to the UK Sthapatya Veda consultant to evaluate its potential for use as a Transcendental Meditation centre. After a visit in May this year, he concluded that the site was near perfect for this purpose. With the support of local TM members, the site, about an acre in size, was purchased in July and plans drawn up for a two storey structure, designed according to Sthapatya Veda principles.

Map of AberdeenAberdeen is the most Northerly of the Scottish Transcendental Meditation centres, and serves a large area including the Eastern Highlands, Orkney and Shetlands as well as Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen city.

Tillydrone is a vibrant community to the North of the city centre that does a lot of positive things for itself; however it also has ongoing social problems that will benefit greatly from the establishment of TM activity. We will practice Transcendental Meditation and the more advanced technique of yogic flying. These practices will encourage peace and harmony in Tillydrone, in Aberdeen and in the whole of NE Scotland.

The establishment of the new centre was the subject of a question from the Aberdeen "Press & Journal" submitted to Maharishi's weekly press conference to the world on Wednesday July 31, 2003. Maharishi replied at length, including the statement that "For individuals, my message is peace, affluence, fulfilment of desires".

Plan of centreAlready local people and their elected representatives in the Community Council, the City Council and Member of the Scottish Parliament have shown an interest and have expressed their support for the project. Also, environmental bodies like the British Urban Environmental Association (BURA) have shown a keen interest in the unique design and materials to be used in the project.

The plans for the new centre have been costed at £150,000. The next stage is therefore to submit the plans for formal Planning Permission, which is in hand, and to raise funds. Supporters of the Transcendental Meditation organisation are now being approached for contributions to allow the project to continue
